Our English for University Programme is a preparation programme for international and European students who have completed high school and want to progress on to university. The programme will prepare students for future undergraduate study in universities across the UK or in other English speaking countries.
We offer you various study options ranging from four to 24 weeks and a choice of study locations. You can choose London with the attractions and excitement of one of the world’s greatest cities, or in the quieter environment of one of the most student-friendly towns in England, the seaside resort of Eastbourne.
During the course, you'll be able to improve your general English proficiency across a wide range of your skillset. We will help you reach the required IELTS level to enter university. However that's not all, you'll also be studying academic English. We will train you for the key study skills that you'll need in order to maximise from the benefits of your university programme, whether it be at undergraduate or postgraduate level. In addition to many other skills, we'll help you develop your skills in areas that include oral presentations, note taking, synthesising evidence from sources and essay & report preparation. We also have a wonderful team of staff that can offer assistance and advice to support you as you apply for university.

At the end of the course, you will have developed the study skills that will allow you to study independently and communicate with confidence at undergraduate (or postgraduate) level in a UK university. The programme is delivered in English, allowing you the opportunity to practise following instructions and working in the English language the same way that you will have to while studying. During your stay with us, you will have the opportunity to learn about key parts of British life that will help you to fit smoothly into the university environment. You will also be able to use a variety of information and communication technology methods, making sure that you are at the level required for undergraduate study.
IELTS preparation lessons are an important part of your programme, helping you reach the IELTS level that is required for your entry onto the university programme of your choice. It is also important that you are able to apply this knowledge to your spoken and written English so that you can communicate effectively in academic and social environments.
During your course you will meet lessons delivered in a range of styles, including:
Classroom lessons – your teacher will provide information, set work and guide debates or discussions
Lectures – tutor-driven lessons
Workshops – working in small groups, working to instructions and objectives, delivering presentations, analysis and reflections
Seminars – presenting and discussing written assignments
Group work –autonomous learning including problem solving, decision making and role allocation
Debates - formal and informal to improve expression and how to tell between fact and fiction
This is to make sure that tuition is varied so that you learn through a variety of different teaching methods in the same way that you will at university.
Our English for University course includes:
- Language placement assessment including grammar, oral and writing - carried out on your first day, this assessment ensures you are placed in the right class.
- Regular progress monitoring - this will take place with your teacher along with monthly progress tests and fortnightly tutorials in order to measure your achievement and highlight areas requiring extra attention.
- Certificate of achievement - upon completion of the course
- Personalised assessment - progress report giving an assessment of your progress in all of the main study areas.
- Access to Twin e-Learning - our very own virtual learning environment. Access is from the time of booking until three months after completion of the course.
- Twin social programme - different events, activities and outings every week, many of which are free.
- Fortnightly tutorials - these will take place with your teacher.
- Supporting your university application - we can provide guidance.
The course aims to prepare you for study in the UK so that you are equipped with the skills and knowledge that you need to succeed in your role. As part of the programme, we will also assist you in completing your application to one of our partner universities or another UK university.
Twin has progression agreements with a number of universities for students who have successfully completed the Twin preparation programme. We will also guide students through the application process for their chosen universities and provide interview practice and arrange campus visits.
